The U.S. Latino population is booming nearly four times as fast as the rest of the population. By midcentury, Hispanics comprise more than a quarter of the nation's citizens, representing half of the nation's population growth.
The U.S. Census Bureau reports that a quarter of children younger than 5 are Hispanic; in five years, they will be Boy Scout age. But today, only 100,000 of the 3 million registered members of Boy Scouts of Americas are Hispanic.
With the creation of the Hispanic Initiative Division (Hispanic Initiatives) and the National Hispanic Initiative Committee, the Boy Scouts of America has demonstrated its commitment to a progressive and innovative strategy that will engage Hispanic youth and their families in Scouting. We want to interweave Hispanic culture throughtour the Scouting program and make this collaboration a solid fit.
