We are proud to serve more than 2,600 youth who participate in Scouting in Bureau, Henry, Knox, McDonough, Mercer, Rock Island, Stark, and Warren counties in Illinois and Cedar, Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine, and Scott counties in Iowa. These 13 counties make up the Illowa Council!
Scouting has been shaping the youth of America for more than 100 years. Scouting does AMAZING things for youth. Scouts try new things, serve others, boost self-confidence, make ethical choices, and explore the outdoors. Besides being super-fun, Scouts say it helps them be more honest, teaches them to better work with others, guides them into becoming better team players and leaders, and provides life-long skills. Prepared. For Life.

Ahh, Gus… Everywhere he went, he was loved for his kind eyes and his tail that spun like a propeller when he ran. Last night at Illowa Council's Community Impact Gala, a James E. West Fellowship was given in memory of Gus by Jeff Doty (past Illowa SE) and Jonathan Cartner (current Illowa SE). As the inaugural SPL of the Bizkit Patrol, he's leaving some big paw prints to fill. So far, Tillie is next in line for his position but we can't keep her out of the trash long enough to be convinced she's up for the duty. We'll keep you posted on her *ahem* progress. I want to thank Jeff and Jonathan for his award – they could not have bestowed it upon a more worthy subject.
My story isn't much different from many other people's – I wasn't picked first for the team, I didn't have a lot of friends, and I always felt a bit out of place. Last night when I received the award in his honor, I realized that I belong – I belong to this Council, with you fellow Scouters, and I have been so greatly blessed by the people that I work with and work for. THANK YOU. Each and every one of you. The greatest comfort I had when I lost Gus was knowing that I got to share my sweet pup with all of you and I'm going to wear his knot with pride! ~Your Registrar, Kristi Smith
