Wilderness First Aid & CPR/AED Training – 5/31-6/2

May 31 – June 2, 2024

This class is designed to give you solid first aid skills in a wilderness setting. This course teaches first aid skills for situations in which emergency care is delayed for long periods or self evacuation is necessary. It includes injury prevention, proper advanced preparation, more advanced first aid techniques, and short-distance transfer and evacuation techniques.

Participants need to be at least 16 years old and must have a basic knowledge of First Aid and a valid CPR/AED certification to begin the WFA training as this course teaches techniques necessary in more extreme situations. CPR/AED training is offered as a Friday night ‘add-on’ option for those not currently certified.

Wilderness First Aid certification is a required course for at least one adult leader on any BSA high adventure trip. The Illowa Council recommends that two adult leaders be trained as Philmont treks now require two.
