EVENTS

Welcome to the Illowa Council!

We are proud to serve more than 2,600 youth who participate in Scouting in Bureau, Henry, Knox, McDonough, Mercer, Rock Island, Stark, and Warren counties in Illinois and Cedar, Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine, and Scott counties in Iowa. These 13 counties make up the Illowa Council!

Scouting has been shaping the youth of America for more than 100 years. Scouting does AMAZING things for youth.  Scouts try new things, serve others, boost self-confidence, make ethical choices, and explore the outdoors.  Besides being super-fun, Scouts say it helps them be more honest, teaches them to better work with others, guides them into becoming better team players and leaders, and provides life-long skills.  Prepared.  For Life.

🌟 Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. 🌟

Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader who dedicated his life to equality, justice, and love. His dream of a world where everyone is judged by the content of their character continues to inspire us all.

💡 Let’s honor his memory by coming together, serving our communities, and promoting kindness and understanding in our daily lives.

✨ “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

*** NEXT MONTH – SCOUT SUNDAY ***

Scouting America designates the Sunday that falls before February 8 (Scouting Anniversary Day) as Scout Sunday, which is the primary date to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting. However, each chartered organization can use either of two other options to celebrate this special day.

An organization can adopt a specific Sunday to celebrate. In the instance of the United Methodist Church, Scout Sunday is celebrated on the second Sunday in February. It also is permissible for a local church to celebrate on the Sunday most acceptable to the pastor and congregation.

The Scout units are urged to participate in the religious services. Scout Sunday is an opportunity for units can attend services in uniform, conduct a flag ceremony, speak about Scouting, present religious awards and/or formally thank the chartering organization for their support throughout the year, reserve pews, take an active participation in the service such as a prayer, request a notice in the church bulletin. Consider having a recruiting information table in the foyer or hospitality area. A Scout is Reverent.
