James E. West Fellowship Award

The James E. West Fellowship Award is a national recognition for individuals who contribute $1,000 or more in cash or securities to their local council endowment trust fund. The contribution is in addition to, and does not diminish or replace, the donor’s annual gift to the council’s Friends of Scouting Campaign. Each year the Lodge selects outstanding Arrowmen to honor them with a gift in their name.

Founders Award

Introduced at the 1981 National Order of the Arrow Conference, the Founder’s Award recognizes Arrowmen who have given outstanding service to their lodge.  The award is reserved for an Arrowman who demonstrates that he or she personifies the spirit of selfless service, as advocated by founder E. Urner Goodman and cofounder Carroll A. Edson.  Recipients of the Founders Award wear a gold-colored arrow suspended from a red ribbon.  Lodges may petition the national Order of the Arrow committee to present between two and four awards annually, depending on the number of members in the lodge.  If the lodge presents more than one award, at least one must be awarded to a youth under the age of 21.

Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award (DSA) was created in 1940 to honor those who rendered service to the Order beyond the lodge level.  The award is presented to Arrowmen, youth and adult, who have rendered distinguished and outstanding service to the Order on a sectional, regional, or national basis.  The award is presented at the National Order of the Arrow Conferences.  Since the time the first awards were presented, less than 1,000 Distinguished Service Awards have been awarded.

The award is a sterling silver arrowhead bearing an arrow pointing up and to the wearer’s right.  The award is suspended from a white neck-ribbon on which red arrows are embroidered.  A white square knot embroidered on red cloth is available for uniform wear and a silver arrowhead lapel pin is available for civilian wear.

Centurion Award

For nearly 100 years, the Order of the Arrow has purposefully recognized Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives.  Therefore, our organization’s centennial provides a unique opportunity to commemorate those among us who are exemplars of the “high ideals and purpose of the Order of the Arrow.”  The Centurion Award aims to highlight “Hometown Heroes,” or Arrowmen who have meaningfully contributed to the forming, maturing, and ongoing operational excellence of their local council’s lodge, and who, in doing so, inspired others to follow in their footsteps.

This award is a one-time recognition associated with the centennial anniversary of the OA that is bestowed by the national Order of the Arrow committee.  It is modeled after a similar program in the BSA’s 100th anniversary celebration, the 2010 National Hall of Leadership.  Accordingly, this recognition is an opportunity to highlight lodge development over the last century and the many individuals, both youth and adult, who were instrumental to this success.  These honorees will serve as exemplars of leadership, modeling to others a commitment to cheerful service as the Order of the Arrow enters its second century.

E. Urner Goodman Camping Award

The E. Urner Goodman Award was established in 1969 as a tribute and testimonial to the Order’s founder, E. Urner Goodman.  Its purpose is to encourage and challenge Order of the Arrow members and lodges to increase their effectiveness in promoting and increasing Scout camping in each council.  Awards are presented to two outstanding lodges in each region annually.  For a lodge to be eligible for consideration, the E. Urner Goodman Camping Award petition should be completed and forwarded with the lodge’s charter renewal application.
